Alive in Richmond

Sorry about the total lack of posting since the move back to Richmond, but I've been having way too much fun. I've been drinking a bunch, and hardly sleeping at all. All the stuff that makes me happy.

Seriously, things have been great here. I made a pact with myself to not let anything bug me at work anymore. There have been plenty of things that could bug me, but it's all way better than what I was doing in Norfolk. All good.

First of all, my apartment is awesome. Tons of space. Tons of privacy. We live right across the lot from the pool, and we have taken advantage of it plenty. It's nice because we can see the pool from our bedroom. We stake it out until it's basically empty, then head out. The only bad thing about this place is the lack of kitchen storage, but for almost $500 less a month I think it's okay.

We've had three major highlights since the move:

1. Went to watch Richmond Lucha at Have a Nice Day Cafe (crappy venue, smelled way too much like vomit). Richmond Lucha now contains way more physical injury, which is kinda cool. Got to see one graphically broken arm, and Stephen sent one dude out on a stretcher with a concussion (even though it technically wasn't his fault).

2. The National at The National. The first National is one of my favorite bands. The second National is a new club in Richmond that opened after I moved away. Killer freaking show. Very loud. Very rowdy crowd. Got to hear my favorite songs ("Squalor Victoria" was amazing). Great time all around.

3. The next night we went to watch Daniel Johnston at the National. First of all, I was a little upset because I had preordered tickets through Ticketmaster, and spent a ton of money in "service charges" and shit. Then at the National (the band) show, they were handing out free tickets. Dammit. Great show though. Daniel is a little rough around the edges these days (not that he was ever really polished), but he still was quite entertaining. Highlights: "Walking the Cow," "True Love Will Find You in the End," and "Speeding Motorcycle" (the song that got me into Daniel Johnston in the first place about ten years ago). It was awesome seeing this legend as it was, but even cooler that we saw the guy we named one of our cats after.

Damn, I'm having a great time here. I missed Richmond a lot more than I thought I would when I left. Good times all around.
